SCLC, Cahoots forming mentor program
The Steuben County Literacy Coalition and Cahoots Coffee Café have formed LINKS, a cooperative mentoring partnership for youth in Steuben County. The program will provide mentors and tutors for children ages 3-18. The goal of the program is to facilitate healthy relationships between adults and youth and to ensure school success.
“This is something we have wanted for our kids at Cahoots and we are excited that it is finally going to be a reality” says Cahoots Co-Director Norma Baker.
LINKS volunteers indicate their preferred age group and mentoring location. The time commitment varies from two to four hours per month based on the age of the child. Mentor training and materials are provided by the Indiana Mentoring Partnership under the direction of December Warren, Project Director for the Indiana Mentoring Partnership.
Mentors must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or the equivalency, obtain a background check and spend at least one hour with their mentee per week. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Amber Farnham at the Literacy Coalition at 665-1414.
